Richard Armitage (in his pre-North & South days) played Lee (the "flirty Gertie" lifeguard) in the delightful British TV comedy Cold Feet. (Armitage was in Season 5, which at this time is only available at Amazon.co.uk.)

I fixed up the shape of his upper lip a little, made the colors warmer, added highlights to the face, and essentially tried for an "oil painting" look. I kind of like it.

I didn't really know what I was going for here. I desaturated the colors after wasting too much time tinkering with them, applied some "painterly" filters, added highlights, and called it done!

johnnie
Possibly my favorite character of Gerard Butler's is Johnnie Donne, from the excellent and critically accliamed British miniseries, The Jury.

I had a great time working on this one. I tried for a cool color scheme, but wanted to keep some warmth on the highlighted side of his face. I liked the blurred effect of the image—it somehow gives it a feeling of impatience. Kind of fits Johnnie's personality.
